Open House for Butterflies by Ruth Krauss

October 5, 2015

I am in love with this book, but am torn as to which is the greatest line in a children’s book that I have ever read. Both lines happen to be in this book.

“Everyone should be quiet near a little stream and listen.”

OR

“A song for bumpy roads is good to know.”

I bought this book for my son then bought a second copy for myself. It is simple and timeless and an exquisite gift for a newborn. It would also be the perfect book to read a lover, a friend, and an old person.

After I read this book, I am reminded that a meaningful life should be filled with simplicity, lightheartedness and one-lined poems. The pace of life is so important. If it is not a slow one, we miss mostly everything.
